Letter to the Editor: PCHS leadership brings best to Perry County

Posted

Citizens of Perry County:
Perry County Health System (PCHS) is a critical access hospital (CAH) with over 22 specialty services on site, as well as a robust family practice group of committed physicians and nurse practitioners. We are one of the only CAH’s to offer full-time orthopedics, podiatry, obstetrics and gynecology, gastroenterology, and pediatrics. In addition, we have recently employed an excellent group of Emergency Department physicians who are supported by our inpatient program, led by a full-time internal medicine physician and a physician assistant. I have been a part of this organization for over 25 years. I know that every one of our providers has a strong bond with our patients and this community. I can also say with confidence we have always had board members and leadership that have sought to bring the best to Perry County. We take great pride in our pursuit of excellent people, technology, and facilities.
But, like every other healthcare organization in the United States, we have faced significant challenges in the past several years. Those challenges include rising supply costs, governmental and commercial insurance reimbursement reductions, competitive wage pressures, a reduced labor supply, and staff burnout just to name a few. Yet unlike most other healthcare organizations we have continued to remain debt free.
Second to none, our staff are committed to providing excellent care for our patients. The culture of PCHS of which we are so proud of, is ours. It is created by the people in our organization, by our volunteers who greet you upon entry, by our clinical staff who perform testing for you, by our housekeeping staff you meet as you walk down our beautifully kept facilities. I have the privilege of working alongside these people every day and the culture they instill comes from the pride they take in who they are as people.

Peyton Manning said it best, “You either get better every day or get worse every day, you are never the same.” Perry County as a place to live and work has always strived to be better. Why should our healthcare system be any different? PCHS is blessed to have employees, board members, trustees, providers and a leadership team who continue to improve the healthcare services we provide to our patients.
Within this challenging healthcare industry, we intend to position our organization to do more than just survive. Our collective goal is to excel, to grow, to improve and fulfill our mission, “to be the first choice of quality healthcare for our community.”
Respectfully,
Chris Wibbenmeyer, CEO
