Letter to the Editor: Created equal

Posted

Dear Editor,

Our great country was formed in 1776 with the declaration that all men are created equal, that all men are endowed by their creator with the right to life, liberty, and the pursuit of happiness.
Seven hundred and fifty thousand died in a bloody civil war to reaffirm the proposition that all men are created equal.
Four hundred thousand died in World War II to reaffirm that all men have the divine right to life, liberty, and the pursuit of happiness.
Two hundred thousand more died in World War I, Vietnam, Korea, Iraq, and Afghanistan to reaffirm our belief in liberty and justice for all.
Throughout our history, Americans have fought and died around the world for the principles in our Constitution.  We have not died in vain.
This great country, one nation under God, is a shining light, a beacon to the world.  No other nation has sacrificed more to improve the human condition of all mankind.

We are not an “inherent, systematic racist” people as was implied in a recent letter to the editor.
We are a compassionate, religious, honorable, freedom-loving people as we have proven over the 254 years since our founding.
We the people are not perfect, but let us be proud of who we are, proud of our founding principles, and proud of the progress we have made.
