To the Editor:
As a five-year member of the Perry County Health System Board and a member of the Perry County Memorial Board of Trustees for the last 10 years, I want to assure our community that both boards have worked hundreds of hours analyzing what the future of health care could look like in Perry County. We are not compensated for this time and energy serving on these boards. We do this work because we love Perry County and we want to make sure we can continue to receive the best health care right here at home. It is an honor and privilege to help the community that has given so much to me and my family for decades. I want to thank and compliment fellow members of both boards for working with each other, and with the hospital leadership and our physicians and employees, to evaluate all of the options and making difficult choices for a continued bright future in Perry County. That hard work resulted in a unanimous vote from both boards to proceed with negotiating a letter of intent with Mercy. That process is ongoing and members of both boards will continue to analyze the next steps. In the end, what we care about most is all Perry County residents and their future health care needs.
