Letter of the Editor: If you look hard enough, you can always find a conspiracy

Dear Editor,
Dear Governor DeSantis of Florida,
You are well known for stating that Florida is a “citadel of freedom.”
You’ve said many times that citizens in your state should be free to choose for themselves whether to get vaccinated or wear a mask. So why did you feel the need to mock and bully certain college students that chose to wear a mask at an event? I thought they were supposed to be able to chose whether to wear masks or not, instead of someone else telling them what to do.
If Florida is about freedom, shouldn’t local school districts be able to decide what measures are best to protect their students, rather than big government in the capital? If Florida is about freedom, why does the state feel the need to cut off a woman’s right to choose at fifteen weeks? If Florida is about freedom, shouldn’t gay and lesbian students have the right to discuss their life choices?

Freedom doesn’t mean that everyone has to go along with your opinion, in fact, quite the opposite.
Perryville residents, if you look hard enough or just lie, you can find a conspiracy in anything. Too many people won’t even consider Mercy Health as a valid option for our hospital simply because “it’s a big corporation.”
Southeast Health is a big corporation and it’s no more local than a hospital in St. Louis like Mercy. Your personal
preference doesn’t hold more value than what is best for our hospital in the long run.
Margie Maples,
Perryville
