Leota Sylvia Lorenz, 96, of Shawneetown passed away Tuesday, May 11, 2021, at the Villas of Jackson.
She was born Feb. 1, 1925, in Farrar, to Alfred J. and Bertha Hadler Etzold. She was baptized and confirmed at Salem Lutheran Church in Farrar.
She and Erwin Martin Lorenz were married April 18, 1948, in Farrar. Six children were born to their union, Dennis, Rita, Curtis, Linda, Nelson, and Wanda. They had been married 63 years when Erwin passed away March 1, 2012.
Leota became a faithful member of Trinity Lutheran Church in Shawneetown after she and Erwin were married.
Leota was a devoted wife, mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother. In addition to helping Erwin on the farm, she was an avid flower and vegetable gardener and an accomplished seamstress and quilter.
Loving survivors include six children, Dennis (Carol) Lorenz of Shawneetown, Rita (James) Whaley of Jackson, Curtis (Debby) Lorenz of Pocahontas, Linda (Terry) Roth of Jackson, Nelson (Belinda) Lorenz of New Wells and Wanda (James) Eaves of Jackson; 12 grandchildren, Laura Lorenz, Cindy (Rustin) Johnson, Darrin (Erin) Whaley, Phillip (Sherry) Whaley, Dana (Lee) Schuermann, Carly Lorenz and fiancée Keith Huckabay, Eric Roth, Ryan (Melanie) Roth, Travis (Katie) Roth, Stacy (Clint) Sinn, and Jared and Spencer Lorenz; eight great-grandchildren, Brailyn, Mason, Laci, Ava, Charlotte, Nathan, Leah, and Tobias; two step-greatgrandchildren, Daniel and Alyssa; and many dear friends at the Villas of Jackson.

She was preceded in death by her husband; a granddaughter, Vanessa Lorenz (parents Curtis and Debby); and a brother, Milton (Mary Ann) Etzold.
Leota’s family is grateful to the staff at the Villas of Jackson for the excellent care given to their mother.
Visitation is from 4 to 7 p.m. Thursday, May 13, 2021, at McCombs Funeral Home and Cremation Center in Jackson, and from 9:30 a.m. to 10:30 a.m., Friday, May 14, 2021, at Trinity Lutheran Church in Shawneetown.
The funeral will be at 10:30 a.m., Friday, at the church, with the Rev. Virgil Kelm officiating. Interment will follow in the church cemetery.
Memorials may take the form of contributions to Trinity Lutheran Church of Shawneetown, St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital or Saxony Lutheran High School.
