Elda June Oehl, 86, of Friedheim, passed away Monday, July 22, 2024, at her home.

Born June 28, 1938, in Daisy, to Alonzo Eric and Ella Elsie Hobeck Kurre, June was the oldest of three children. She was a 1956 graduate of Oak Ridge High School and served as class president.

She was baptized and confirmed at New Salem Methodist Church in Daisy. She and Richard Henry Oehl were married June 30, 1956, at Trinity Lutheran Church in Friedheim, where June served 47 years as a Sunday School teacher and was a member of the Ladies Aid. She and Richard were also the church custodians for many years.

June was a homemaker and Richard’s right hand on their farm near Friedheim. She served as a 4-H leader for Arnsberg 4-H Club and was a 4-H superintendent at the SEMO District Fair. She enjoyed cooking for her family, gardening, canning, and baking with her daughter-in-law at Oehl’s bakery. June and Richard had been married for 64 years when Richard passed away July 31, 2020.

Loving survivors include two sons, Rodney (Pam) Oehl and Ronald (Candi) Oehl; grandchildren: Dustin Oehl of Columbia; Dakota (Katie) Oehl and son Henry of Friedheim; Michaela (Drew) Kiefer and son Conrad of Perryville; and Katelyn Oehl and husband Spencer Schuessler of Shawneetown; son-in-law, Mike (Connie) Ward and children Justin and Hailey, all of Friedheim; a sister, Joan (Lloyd) Ford of Pendleton, Indiana; and a sister-in-law, Jackie (late William) Kurre of Friedheim.

She was preceded in death by her husband; a daughter, Jean Ann Ward; a grandson, Joshua Oehl; a brother, William Kurre; her parents; Richard’s parents, Henry and Docilla Oehl; and Richard’s siblings, Marlen (Lorene) Oehl, Howard (Dorothy) Oehl, Gertrude (Adolph) Rhode, and Wilma (William) Bogenpohl.

Visitation was Wednesday, July 24, 2024 and Thursday, July 25, 2024, at Trinity Lutheran Church in Friedheim. The funeral was Thursday, July 25, 2024, at the church, with the Rev Michael Winckler officiating. Burial followed in the church cemetery. Serving as pallbearers were Dakota and Dustin, and John Oehl, Drew Kiefer, Justin Ward, and Spencer Schuessler.

Memorials may take the form of contributions to Trinity Lutheran Church Community Building Fund.
