Perry County Health Department director Sylvia Forester submitted her resignation to the Board of Health Friday, May 21.

"It's been such an honor and a privilege to serve the citizens of Perry County," Forester said. "My husband and I are expecting our second child later this summer, and I have made the decision not to return after her arrival. I am looking forward to being able to spend more time with my family. I will be forever grateful for my time with the Perry County Health Department."

Morrison said Forester notified her of the decision Thursday, May 20.

The board officially accepted her resignation at a special meeting Friday, May 21.

"Because it's a personnel matter, we went into closed session," said Board of Public Health president Denise Morrison.

All five board members voted in favor of accepting the resignation, Morrison said.

Assistant director Liz House was voted interim director.

A specific date on Forester's final day with the health department has not been given. Morrison hasn't spoken with Forester since the board's decision May 21.

The Perry County Board of Health held a meeting Tuesday, May 25, at 3:30 p.m. The board will hold its next regular meeting Tuesday, June 15, at 9 a.m.
