Erwin Edgar Kassel, 83, of Perryville died Sunday, Dec. 5, 2021 at Independence Care Center.
He was born Nov. 2, 1938 in Farrar to William and Wilma (Roth) Kassel.
He and Rose Roth were married Dec. 10, 1966 at Eisleben Lutheran Church in Scott City.
Erwin graduated from Perryville High School in 1957.
He was a member of Salem Lutheran Church.
He was a member of the National Guard. He was involved in his church, serving on various boards and committees and recording church services for many years. He was a full time farmer and sold Hardy Outdoor Wood Burning Heaters to many families in the area. Erwin was on the Perry County Farm Bureau Board of Directors and served as President for many years. One of his greatest joys in life was attending his grandchildren’s sporting events, there had to be an extremely good reason for him to miss an event.
Survivors include son, Kent (Dawn) Kassel of Perryville; daughter, Christine (Gregory) Baer of Perryville; two brothers, Melvin (Jeanne) Kassel of St. Charles, Roy (Jean) Kassel of Olathe, Kan.; sister, Gladys Reid of Jackson; six grandchildren, Morgan (fiance’ Jeffrey Roth) Thaxton, Dalton (Abby) Baer, Kassidy (fiance’ Tim Schumer) Kassel, Camryn Baer, Kara Kassel, Kaden Kassel; great-grandchild, Xander Thaxton.
