The City of Perryville has picked a location for a new skate park and now just await the necessary funding to make it a reality. During the city council meeting on Dec. 6, the Board of Aldermen approved a location for a new skate park in the City Park.
Perry County Heritage Tourism Director Trish Erzfeld noted that part of the grant application for the park was to pick out a location.
“Part of the grant was to pick out a piece of property that we would utilize for the park,” she said. “That’s why we had to pin a location down. The skate committee kind of already had the area pegged early on. It was just a matter of getting the Board of Aldermen to agree. We had to have a plan. We also wanted to make the dollars work for the grant, which is a 50-50 agreement. Everything we come up with, they will match.”

Erzfeld noted that the location is a good one for the skate park.
“It’s a fantastic spot because there is a parking lot there and there is high visibility,” Erzfeld said. “The lay of the land Is good to incorporate a bowl and the other things that a skate park needs.”
Erzfeld noted that the grant money will be awarded in January, in which case she and the skate committee will know more information.
“I don’t want to get people super excited that it is coming and we don’t know that for sure yet,” Erzfeld said. “It all depends on if we get the grant.”
