City board discusses subdivsion

Tuesday’s meeting of the Perryville Board of Aldermen wasn’t exactly typical. The meeting featured a relatively small agenda, along with a missing mayor, an alderman, and a city administrator that attended virtually as he completes an isolation period related to COVID-19. That didn’t mean there wasn’t plenty of discussion. After approving the consent agenda — which featured items ranging from the monthly financial report to project payments ($252,687 to Lappe Cement Finishing) related to the 2020 street improvement project on Trade Winds Drive and Robb Street, and from approving plans and specifications for a locker room renovation project at the Perry Park Center to allowing local law enforcement to make use of Park Center facilities after hours, the board spent several minutes discussing an emergency ordinance to accept plans for a new subdivision. Pirates Pointe Subdivision is a workforce housing project being done in conjunction with the Missouri Housing Commission. The builders are ready to begin the project, but the board needed to give final approval as part of the planning and zoning process. After asking numerous questions of both administrator Brent Buerck and city attorney Thomas Ludwig, aldermen voted to approve the ordinance contingent on receiving a surety bond or letter of credit to show developers had the funds to cover necessary city infrastructure. The board also approved plans for a parade proposed by the Perry County Republican Club on Oct. 17. The proposed parade, which will folow a different route than typical parades, will be similar to tractor parades, in which streets will not be blocked, but officers will lead the parade. Walker will not be allowed.
