At its Feb. 4 meeting at city hall, the Perryville Board of Aldermen gave tentative approval to a Boy Scout’s Eagle project and approved four Parks Department concrete projects, including a basketball court, a sidewalk connecting the bathroom to the pickleball court, a handicapped parking spot at Pavillion #10 and a handicapped spot on the lower gravel parking lot at the soccer complex.

“The base bid consisted of the four concrete projects in the current year’s budget,” said City Administrator Brent Buerck. The staff also proposed an alternative to address stormwater
concerns at the Perryville Youth Football Field, but it came in at $41,000.00. We will work with the engineer to develop an alternate solution for this item but recommend proceeding with the original four projects only, some previously identified by the board and all in the budget.”

The board also approved bid specifications for renovations of the city hall office and authorized the staff to advertise for bids. According to Buerck, the project was previously discussed with the board and will be part of next year’s budget. The staff requested permission to complete the design now and take the project to bid. The renovation project will divide the “warehouse” space at city hall into a storage area for files and an office for the Building Inspection Department.

The board also entered into an agreement with Zoellner Construction Company Inc. relative to the Perry Park Center Interior Renovation project.

The board had previously expressed concerns about the cost of the upstairs multi-purpose room. According to Buerck, the staff has worked with the lowest bidder and architectural firm to value engineer the project and remove the upstairs room. As proposed by the staff now, this project will expand the weight room, add a glass wall to the remaining racquetball court and install footings for the multipurpose room upstairs to preserve this option in the future.

Boy Scout Aiden Unverferth presented the board with his idea for his Eagle project. The board gave tentative support to the project, but will vote on it in a future meeting.

In other action, the board approved:

– revisions to the city’s request for proposals seeking banking services for the city to include a requirement for the banking institution to provide annual fraud prevention training for city hall staff.

– permanently extending the natural gas appliance rebates program.

– a request from Perry County Creative Arts to waive Perry Park Center fees for its theater production.

– entering into an amended real estate purchase and sale agreement with Perryville Development Corporation to purchase the Industrial Park.

– entering into an agreement with Centermark Construction LLC regarding the Heimos Lift Station project.

Closing out the meeting, the board heard various committee reports and a report by City Administrator Buerck.
