Christmas on the Square this Saturday

An annual holiday tradition — the lights parade and pictures with Santa — will return to the Perryville square Dec. 4. Those seeking photos with Santa Claus this year as part of the Christmas on the Square event will have the opportunity to do so from 4 to 5:30 p.m. Saturday, Dec. 4, at Juste Moi Yoga & Spa, 21 North Main Street.
Juste Moi will have a Christmas tree photo background plus ornament making. “It’ll be a very simple ornament that the kids can make,” said Khala Young of Juste Moi.
Antique tractors, cars, a visit from Santa on the fire truck and much more are a part of the annual light parade, which starts at 6 p.m.
Participants look forward to the parade each year, Young noted.“They already know what do to, they know the drill because it’s that big of a deal every year,” she said. Following the parade, there will be a countdown led by Santa to light the Christmas tree at the Downtown Plaza stage.
The Downtown Revitalization Committee is working toward getting matching lights and an improved look of the outdoor light display, according to Young.

“We’re on a journey toward getting things more personally done and matching,” Young said.
After the lighting of the Christmas tree, there will be a chance for more pictures with Santa. From 6:30 to 8 p.m., the Perryville High School Chamber Choir will sing a variety of holiday carols.
“I’m very happy the Chamber choir is doing it this year. They are a beautiful choir that doesn’t need a lot of instruments or anything. They just do a beautiful job with their voices.”
In addition, there will be complimentary hot chocolate and cookies. Donations are welcome to assist with covering the cost of hot chocolate and cookies, as well as the installation of the Christmas lights.
“We’re open to more ideas,” Young said. “We try to keep it simple because we’ve tried to over-do it years before. I think the simplicity is what brings more people in.”
