A South Carolina man is facing felony charges for resisting arrest and drug possession after leading officers from the Missouri State Highway Patrol and the Perryville Police Department on a brief chase last week. According to a report from the Perry County Sheriff’s Office, Joshua L. Davis, 32, was arrested by deputies on Sept. 16, a day after eluding officers by abandoning the vehicle he was driving while being pursued by the Highway Patrol on Interstate 55. During the pursuit on Sept. 15, Davis — who was reportedly driving a stolen vehicle — left the interstate at the Perryville exit and headed south on Hwy. 51, turning onto Jefferson Street, where he abandoned the vehicle after reaching a dead end. The Highway Patrol and Perryville Police were unable to locate him at that time. The next day, someone called the Perryville Police Department to report a person matching the description of the runaway driver in the vicinity of Friendly Valley near PCR 704, prompting Perryville Communications to contact Perry County Communications, requesting a deputy be dispatched to try and locate the subject. Det. Kevin Gross and Dep. Andy Pacinda responded, and, at approximately 12:07 p.m., spotted a subject matching the description walking toward Hwy. 51. As the officers attempted to make contact, the subject — later identified as Davis — ran up the driveway of a residence and was pursued by Gross and Pacinda, who lost sight of the subject as he ran behind the house. A witness informed the officers that Davis had run down the hill toward a nearby pond. The officers followed a trail in the grass, eventually taking Davis into custody and recovering a bag of marijuana. Davis — wanted on two active warrants — admitted to ownership of the bag of marijuana, which weighed approximately 72 grams. Davis is being held without bond at the Perry County Jail.
