Call, Yunck lead Lady Crusaders to third at district meet

SCOTT CITY — Saxony Lutheran junior pole vaulter Casey Call and senior teammate Rebecca Yunck each collected first-place finishes May 10 to help lead the Lady Crusaders to a third-place team finish at the Class 2 District 1 track and field meet May 10 at Scott City High School.

The Saxony girls finished with 100 points, trailing firstplace Jefferson (137) and Valle Catholic (129, which finished second. Yunck and Call also led a list of several Crusaders who qualified to advance to the sectional round scheduled for May 17 at Hillsboro.

Call, ranked second among Class 2 pole vaulters by Mo- MileSplit.com, finished first at the district meet, clearing 3.2 meters, down from her season- best of 3.35 set April 14.

Teammate Sarah Seabuagh finished third at 2.75 meters. Yunck, ranked 28th in javelin in Class 2, earned the top spot with a throw of 33.14, just under her season-best of 33.38 set April 22. Senior Abigail Haley as second in the 100 hurdles (17.23 seconds) and third in the 300 hurdles (50.52); senior Myra Roth qualified with a third-place finish in the 1,600 (5:39.7) and a fourth-place finish in the 800 (2:39.5); sophomore Raylee Matthews was second in the long jump (4.95); and Adalyn Brandhorst was fourth in the 3,200 (14:44.3).

All four of Saxony’s relay teams also qualified, with the 800 relay finishing second (1:50.7), the 400 relay (52.82) and the 3,200 relay (11:30.6) each finishing third, and the 1,600 relay (4:39.8) finihsing fourth.

On the boys’ side, Saxony Lutheran finished with 45 points, in a tie for eighth with Scott City. The Crusaders were led by junior Maksim Mayhew, who was second in the 400 at 52.39 seconds, and junior Nashaun Davis, who was second in the 110 hurdles, finishing with a time of 16.23. Sophomore Clark Jones was fourth in the long jump at 6.14 meters, while fellow 10th-grader Jacob Schupp was fourth in the pole vault at 2.55m.
