HILLSBORO — Saxony Lutheran junior pole vaulter Casey Call matched her first-place performance at the Class 2, District 1 meet, clearing 3.2 meters to claim first place at the Class 2, Sectional 1 meet May 17 at Grandview High School, and earn a ticket to the state championships Friday in Jefferson City.
Call is ranked second in Missouri’s Class 2, according to MoMileSplit.com, behind Tandee Hiser of Butler, who recorded a season-best height of 3.77 meters at a meet on April 22.
Call’s best vault this season was 3.35 meters at the Scott City Open on April 14. Joining Call at the state meet will be teammate Sarah Seabuagh, who finished second in the pole vault at 2.75 meters, along with senior Abigail Haley, who finished third in the 100 hurdles in 17.25 seconds, and the Lady Crusaders’ 1,600 relay team, which finished fourth with a time of 4:19.38.
On the boys’ side, junior Maksim Mayhew earned his spot at state with a third-place finish in the 400 with a time of 52.47, and classmate Nashaun Davis advanced with a third-place finish in the 110 hurdles with a time of 16.13 seconds.
In other events, Raylee Matthews was fifth in the long jump at 4.93 meters, Haley was sixth in the 300 hurdles (51.47), Rebecca Yunck was sixth in the javelin at 32.11 meters, and Myra Roth was seventh in the 1,600, finishing in 6:02.37.
The Lady Crusaders’ 800 relay was sixth in 1:52.40, the 400 relay was seventh in 53.0, and the 3,200 relay was seventh in 11:19.27.
For the boys, Clark Jones was seventh in the long jump at 6.1 meters and Jacob Schupp was eighth in the pole vault at 2.6 meters.
