Board of education holds busy February meeting

The Perry County School District 32 board of education made several special presentations to student-athletes, and approved a number of business items when it met in regular session Feb. 12 in the Old Senior High School building.

After the consent agenda was approved, the meeting was closed briefly to recognize several groups of students for their accomplishments. (See the Sports section in this issue.)

Along with the student-athletes and varsity football coach Brent Roth receiving accolades, Ms. Kellerman was presented a $14,000 Impact 100 Grant to provide Challenge Day events for the seventh graders.

During the meeting, the board approved an insurance bid from OSBA for the 2025-2026 school year and building CSIP plans, as presented by the principals (See separate story). In addition, MSBA policy updates (2024D, GCBDA, GDBDA) were reviewed, and the administration followed up with financial reports, Raymond James underwriting services, the monthly attendance report, survey results, PACTC scholarship video, board newsletter, and the MSBA February video.

In closed session, the board approved the resignation of social sciences teacher Josh Cole; the retirement of custodian Kevin Gegg; and hirings that included building administrators and directors as presented for the 2025-2026 school year; Abbey Medlin, middle school track coach for the 2024-2025 school year; and an updated substitute list for the 2024-2025 school year, as presented. Closed session ended with a discussion about employee matters by the board.
