Board awards bid for elementary project

The Perry County School District No. 32 Board accepted the low bid for the Perryville Elementary School’s Phase 2B renovation project to be completed during summer break 2020. The low bid was from Brockmiller Construction of Framington for $2,406,900, removing the gymnasium project from this phase for around $200,000, bringing it to $2.2 million. The plan is to add the gym to the next phase of the renovation. “The gym was going to be its own standalone project,” Perryville Superintendent Andy Comstock said. “We thought that if we put a larger project together we could get better numbers.” Courtney Wegman of L.J. Hart presented information about the issuance of bonds to continue financing of the district’s long-range facility plan construction projects. Nearly $9.6 million in bonds will be issued with financing closing at the end of February 2020. Market movement, in the form of lower interest rates, mean that the bonds are expected to generate an additional $700,000 in revenue than estimated in December 2018. The 2021 Enhancement Grant proposal, presented by PACTC Director Craig Hayden, was approved as presented for submission. Mr. Hayden proposed a total cost of $90,294 with a district cost of $22,573 and federal funds of $67,720. The proposal includes equipment for auto collision repair technology, auto service technology, construction technology, industrial engineering technology, and welding technology. If awarded, this grant would provide 30 Lenovo Ideapads, five Toughbook tablets, two portable welders, a router table, auto charging system carts, and scaffolding. Emma King was approved as the recipient of the John T. Belcher Scholarship.
