Bernhard “Ben” W. Oswald, 81, of Woodson Terrace passed away on Thursday, January 7, 2021 at Christian Northeast Hospital in St. Louis.
He was born March 28, 1939 in Perry County to Leo and Hilda (Moeckel) Oswald. He and Phyllis Oster were married July 25, 1959 at Immanuel Lutheran Church in Perryville. She survives in Woodson Terrace.
Ben was an active member of Hope Lutheran Church in St. Ann where he served on the Board of Elders and Board of Ushers. He loved his family and always looked forward to going camping with them. He loved spending time at their place in Perry County. He was also an avid bowler and once bowled a perfect game. He was a Navy veteran. He had worked in shipping and receiving for Wonder Bread and A & P Bakeries. He was a member of Bakers Union #4.
Other survivors include two sons, Keith (Marilyn) Oswald of Lake St. Louis, Scott Oswald of Woodson Terrace; one brother, Arnie (Sharon) Oswald of Perryville; one sister, Wilma Esselman of Perryville; and four grandchildren, Margaret, Brandon, Justin and Nicholas.
He was preceded in death by his parents; three brothers, H. Lee, Rueben and Alfred Oswald and two sisters, Olga Oswald and Norma McIntyre.
Service will be private for the family with the Rev. Timothy Ostermeyer officiating. Burial will be at Immanuel Lutheran Cemetery in Perryville.
In Lieu of flowers memorial contributions may be given to Hope Lutheran Church in St. Ann.
