Apartment fire leads to arrest

A Perryville man has been charged with second-degree arson and first-degree property damage in connection with a fire at 118 West St. Joseph Street in Perryville after police officers and firefighters responded to a call at 5:02 p.m. Sunday.

According to Perryville Police Cpl. Jeri Cain, Michael E. Kramer, 37, was charged in relation to starting the fire that reportedly began in a couch at the residence. In addition to the couch being destroyed, there was also damage to other furniture and the apartment walls.

Kramer was a resident of apartment E. There are reportedly a total of five apartments in the building.

An investigation into the fire continues.
