Perryville Mayor Ken Baer signed a proclamation designation Thursday, April 15, as Purple Up! Day. To recognize this, people are encouraged to wear purple.
The contributions and sacrifices of the men and women, families and kids, in the city of Perryville, who serve in the U.S. Armed Forces have been vital in maintaining the freedoms and way of life enjoyed by citizens.
It’s an opportunity to celebrate Perry County youth with a parent in the military.
The proclamation by the city has occurred in both 2020 and 2021.
“It’s been a national day for several years, but it is picking up in interest,” said Carol Rozier, head of the Americanism Committee of the American Legion Auxiliary.

Individuals are encouraged to wear purple in appreciation and support of military kids.
In addition, April is the month of the military child.
Sponsored by the Department of Defense Military Community and Family Policy, the Month of the Military Child is a time to applaud military families and their children for the daily sacrifices they make and the challenges they overcome.
Throughout the month, the Department of Defense Education Activity encourages schools to plan special events to honor military children and have administrators and principals incorporate the themes of this month into their every day duties and responsibilities.
The efforts and special events stress the importance of providing children with quality services and support to help them succeed in the mobile military lifestyle.
