The local cross country teams made their season debuts at the Jackson Invitational Saturday.
The race is not like many the runners will face this season as each boy and girl raced only with their grade levels.
St. Vincent senior Gabe Anders had the best finish of the day of any fellow Indian, Perryville or Saxony Lutheran runner when he finished seventh overall with a time of 13 minutes, 17 seconds.
Anders was one of six Indians to earn a medal after finishing in the top 25 runners of their respective races.
Sophomore Jackson Unterreiner finished eight overall with a time of 14:13.52.
Ethan Leible finished closely behind his fellow senior teammate in 19th place overall with a time of 14:48.
On the girls side, senior Anna Schwartz finished 16th overall in the senior race with a time of 18:02.31. Katelyn Sutterer also medaled with a time of 19:12.62.
Sophomore Cailyn Prost found success in the sophomore race when she finished 21st overall with a time of 19:27.19.
Saxony Lutheran Anna Thomason finished 10th overall in the senior race with a time of 17:24.53. Thomason had the best finish of any Saxony runner on the day.
Freshman Seth Mueller medaled in the boys race taking 21st place with a time of 13:00.93.
Sophomore Jesse Schupp finished 19th overall with a time of 16:07.12.
Brothers Preston and Porter Hoeckele both medaled in the freshman race for Perryville. Porter finished 11th place with a time of 12:32.33 and Preston wasn’t far behind at 12:45.10 to finish 16th overall.
Senior Lucas Smith finished just inside the top 25 to medal.
He finished with a time of 15:02.65 for 23rd overall on the day.
