SCOTT CITY – Economic development in southeast Missouri is gaining momentum, with Amazon’s latest investment coming to Scott City. The global e-commerce giant will soon begin construction on a new 61,000-square-foot last-mile delivery station, bringing 70 jobs and going a long way in solidifying the SEMO Industrial Park as a hub for business growth.
SEMO REDI played a pivotal role in making this project possible, helping to secure a $2.5 million matching grant from the Missouri Department of Economic Development for critical infrastructure improvements to the industrial park. These funds supported road construction and essential utilities — including water, sewer, electricity, and gas — to lay the groundwork for business expansion.
“This project exemplifies SEMO REDI’s strategy — building strong partnerships and creating opportunities for sustainable growth,” said Shad Burner, SEMO REDI’s CEO. “A win for Scott City is a win for the entire region.”
Located on the northern edge of Scott City, the 380-acre SEMO Industrial Park, co-owned by Greg Erb and Carrie Roider, offers prime access to major transportation routes like Interstate 55, Cape Girardeau Regional Airport, and the Southeast Missouri Regional Port Authority.
Infrastructure work began in mid-2023 and is expected to finish by August to ensure businesses have shovel-ready parcels from five to 20-plus acres available to choose from.
According to CEO Burner, SEMO REDI has been instrumental in marketing the site, working with local stakeholders and commercial real estate partners to attract tenants.
It is expected by SEMO REDI that Amazon’s facility will streamline logistics in southeast Missouri, enhancing delivery services in Cape Girardeau, Scott, and surrounding counties. Employees will earn at least $17 per hour, reinforcing the company’s commitment to competitive wages and local job creation.
“The collaboration between SEMO REDI, Scott City, and Lorimont Commercial Real Estate underscores the power of strategic partnerships in driving economic success,” said Burner.
“As SEMO REDI continues advancing initiatives, the SEMO Industrial Park stands as a testament to forward-thinking leadership and regional growth.”
