An alleged ransomware attack of the internal network server of St. Vincent de Paul Parish in Perryville has led to an FBI investigation. The incident reportedly occurred Aug. 2.
"At this time, the parish does not believe any sensitive, person or financial data was compromised," said a spokeswoman with the Archdiocese of St. Louis.
Parish members were made aware of the incident earlier this month.
Law enforcement was notified when the hack was discovered, according to the spokeswoman.
The Perryville Police Department was contacted about the alleged incident. The police are referring all inquiries to the FBI office in Cape Girardeau, which is the entity responsible for handling the investigation.
